Fin was 8/9 months old when she came to us for a 4-week back-to-basics board & train. Fin's family was looking for some intensive basic obedience training to get her prepped for herding dog training.

Owner concerns:

  • She doesn't listen

  • She chased horses that resulted in significant damage

Goal(s):

  • Get her excited to train and listen to handlers

  • Instill a good recall command

  • A good understanding of the "Sit" command

  • A good understanding of the "Down" command

  • A good understanding of the "Stay" command

The good: Fin's owners did a great job teaching her to kennel, and she was very nicely socialized. She was getting enough food, had plenty of exercise, and overall was a very sweet and fun dog to train!

The issues: Fin had a routine, but she almost entirely dictated it herself. She was free-fed, had the run of the farm during the day, and was loved on when she was home.
